Prosper Pierre-Louis
Prosper Pierre-Louis was born December 12, 1947 in Jacmel, Haiti. He attended art class at the school of Saint Soleil which was founded by the Haitian legend Jean-Claude Garoute. Garoute is also the founder of Poto-Mitan, the Museum of Ceramics. Prosper's paintings consistently depict various loas and voodoo deities. Andre Malraux, a famous French author and Selden Rodman, Co-founder of Centre d'Art, were particularly taken by his work. Prosper participated in various art exhibitions in Haiti, Israel in 1974, Soisson-la-Montagne Festival, France 1975, Hamburg, Germany, and the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. in 1994. His career was cut short by his sudden death in 1997. Illustrations of his painting can be seen in Gérald Alexis' book, “Peintres Haïtien” and Selden Rodman’s book, “Where Art is Joy”.
